In recent years, a quiet revolution has been unfolding in healthcare, with functional medicine and root cause approaches gaining momentum as more people seek answers beyond symptom management. Unlike traditional models that often rely on medications to treat symptoms and discomfort, this patient-centered philosophy digs deeper to uncover the underlying triggers of chronic conditions—be it inflammation, lifestyle factors, or environmental influences. As chronic diseases affect millions globally, with trends showing a shift toward personalized care, the demand for practitioners who address the "why" behind illnesses has surged, offering a glimmer of hope for those tired of one-size-fits-all treatments, or worse, adding yet another pill with potentially negative side effects to your daily regimen. This rise, evident in the growing number of certified professionals and innovative clinics, reflects a broader awakening to holistic wellness, where diet, stress management, and individualized plans play a central role in restoring health.
My own journey with a rare bone cancer, desmoplastic fibroma, mirrors this shift in a deeply personal way. Back then, with limited resources and no community to lean on, I faced isolation and uncertainty through grueling surgeries and recurrences, learning firsthand how the healthcare system can leave patients adrift. Yet, by 2014, when a second recurrence prompted me to create a global online support community—I began to see the power of seeking root causes, connecting with others, and exploring resources that addressed not just my symptoms but my overall well-being. This experience has fueled my passion for patient advocacy, showing me how understanding the deeper "why" can transform lives.
A Positive Path Forward Today, as I pursue patient advocate certification, I see my story aligning with the rise of functional medicine, where the focus on root causes empowers patients to take charge of their health. My efforts to guide others through treatment plans, insurance navigation, and community support reflect this trend’s promise—offering not just relief but lasting resilience.

As I continue to reflect as the days and weeks go by in 2025, I’m more convinced than ever that this movement is a gift, turning personal struggles into a collective strength.
